Inmate attempts suicide in lockup, critical in Siliguri

An accused tried to commit suicide at a lockup of a police station in Siliguri. He was rushed firstly to the civil hospital and then later to a private hospital where he is being treated. The Commissioner of police said that they have started an enquiry on the incident. A BJP local leader demanded a probe and those responsible be punished. Two incidents in Siliguri, one of a businesswoman being beaten up and a school teacher stabbed by goons at Ward no 15 of the municipal corporation, here, has made residents of the area jittery. The accused are believed to have close connections with leaders of the ruling party.
