MS Dhoni's antics as a swashbuckling finisher coupled with his abilities as the sharpest wicket keeper in the game, saw him heralded as a national icon for a generation.

The 41 year old has left an indelible mark in the game's history and in the fans' hearts by bringing home all three ICC trophies. The only captain to have done so till date.

Dhoni hung his boots up in International Cricket on the occasion of our 73rd Independence Day after having stayed away from the game for over a year.

The last memory of the hard hitting right hander on the cricket pitch, was him trudging back to the dugout after a Martin Guptill enforced run out at Old Trafford in 2019.

His special confidante, Suresh Raina, decided to 'accompany' him on the way back to the pavilion, the iconic duo’s camaraderie winning many hearts on the day.

Dhoni has since been featuring in commercials, playing other sports, while also serving as Lt.Colonel of the Indian territorial army, an honorary position bestowed on the World cup winning skipper.

The veteran has remained in tremendous shape post retirement, also winning a local lawn tennis tournament last year.

When asked if the 'Yellove army' would see him back in CSK colours or even coming back to play at all, Dhoni recently said.

Dhoni was recently seen spending time in the nets last week at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi, trying to find his touch ahead of the IPL mega opener on 20th March as CSK lock horns with the KKR.

A Youtube video showing the same has gone viral all over the web, leaving many fans of the franchise drooling across the country.

Managing a paltry 234 runs in 16 innings in last season's IPL, the onus remains on Captain Cool to rediscover his consistency this term.

Dhoni already has four IPL trophies in his cabinet and a fifth trophy will be a perfect ending to the concluding chapter of his fairytale journey in the game.

The experienced campaigner is only 22 short of five thousand runs in the tournament, boasting 229 sixes to his name, fourth highest in the IPL history.

Scoring an excess of 17000 runs and 829 dismissals (634 catches and 195 stumpings) the wily talisman has nothing left to prove but will still attempt once more to manifest the highs with his fans and relish the fleeting moments on a cricketing pitch, perhaps for one final time.
